NEWSROOM

Vedem’s de-facto newsroom was  a three-tiered bunk room, named Home #1. Home #1’s teenage inhabitants braved squalid living conditions that included overcrowding, life-threatening diseases, rats and bedbugs. Fourteen-year-old editor Petr Ginz oversaw the “newsroom,” urging Vedem’s contributors to write about what they thought, saw and did. The boys wrote at a center wooden table or on their bunks. Bunkmates were kept on lookout to give a secret signal if German guards were nearby.
